Birth Control Patch and HRT: Dangerous Drugs
The Ortho Evra birth control patch advertises effortless and easy birth control. For many patients, it delivers dangerous blood clots.
HRT (hormone replacement therapy) advertises relief from menopause symptoms. For many patients, it delivers breast cancer and heart problems.
At the Girardi | Keese law firm in California, our attorneys represent patients nationwide who have been seriously injured because of these dangerous drugs. The dangers were known, but the manufacturers were raking in profits at the expense of patients' health and lives.
Women using the Ortho Evra birth control patch are at higher risk for VTE.
VTE (venous thromboembolism) can cause dangerous, life-threatening blood clots. Johnson & Johnson, the manufacturer, has known about Ortho Evra side effects for years. Despite the danger, the once-a-week birth control patch has been on the market since 2002. The FDA issued a warning in 2006, and in 2008, in response to another study, the company agreed to a new label.
Ortho Evra advertising says the Ortho Evra patch is as effective as the Pill, but simpler. They don't say that it carries a higher risk of VTE.
HRT causes many of the problems it claimed to prevent.
Led by Premarin and Prempro (from Wyeth), hormone replacement therapy told women their drugs would bring a longer and better life. A major study (Women's Health Initiative) set out to prove that. Instead it showed increased breast cancer and cardiovascular risks, and the study was cut short to avoid further danger to patients.
At our law firm, our trial lawyers are pleased to represent women nationwide who have been adversely affected by the Ortho Evra birth control patch, hormone replacement therapy or the Yaz and Yasmin birth control pills. If you have questions about our actions against drug companies, contact us.
